Y. BHG. DATO’ LAWRENCE CHAN KUM PENG, is the Founder and Executive Chairman of PDL Management Corporation (M) Sdn Bhd - a leading Malaysian Human Resource Development Training Provider and Consultancy since 1974. In 1988, he was awarded Certified Speaking Professional (CSP) designation by the National Speakers Association, (NSA), USA, being the first Asia’s speaker/trainer to receive it. He is also a multiple award-winning international training consultant, Hall-of-Fame Leader, Olympics and World Championship best performance coach for over 45 years. He is a Founding President and Advisor of Malaysian Association of Professional Speakers (MAPS), Advisor and fellow life member of the Institute of Marketing, Malaysia (IMM) and many Toastmasters Clubs, and advisor of Junior Chamber of Kuala Lumpur Mandarin, a Senator of Junior Chamber International (JCI), and a member of the Board of Governors of the Asia Pacific Brands Foundation (APBF).
As an Outstanding Student Leader and Achiever in studies, sports and co-curricular activities, he went on a Federal Scholarship to study Electrical Engineering for 4 years in University Technology, Malaysia (Technical College) and he served for 5 years in the Government Telecommunications Department with the rich experience of managing a workforce ranging from 10 to 300 personnel.
He is not only a pioneer in the field of mind development and motivation, but a leading authority and top achiever as well. His ground breaking approaches in speaking, training and coaching have produced outstanding results that has earned him many national and international awards and recognition.
He is a recipient of numerous national and international awards including the Distinguished Leadership Award (USA), Outstanding Young Malaysian Award (1985), Hall-of-Fame for Distinguished Leaders (USA), Most Admired Man of the Decade, and World Life-Time Achievement Award presented by the American Biographical Institute, USA. In 1995, HRH Sultan Azlan Shah, The Sultan of Perak and the 9th King of Malaysia, conferred the “Dato’ship” Award to him for his outstanding training services and vast contributions to Malaysians and Country. He was honoured with the prestigious title “The International Man of the Year 1997” given by the International Biographical Association, Cambridge, England.
In 2009, he was presented with the The BrandLaureate Brand Personality Award by Asia Pacific Brands Foundation. In January 2010, he was inducted into the very prestigious “Hall-of-Fame for Distinguished Accomplishments in human resource development and training” by the American Biographical Institute, USA, and recently, his PDL Company was awarded “The BrandLaureate for best brands in Corporate Branding – Best Brands in Services – Training”.
In 2010, he was awarded to be a “Fellow Member” of the Malaysian Institute of Management with the professional designation, FMIM, in recognition of his outstanding performance, in achievements and contributions to the practice of management leadership in Malaysia. In 2011, he was awarded the Pro-Chancellor Special Award given by Universiti Technologi Malaysia (UTM).
His accolades are recorded in many recognised publications including “Who’s Who In The World” – 6th Edition (1982/83), International Directory of Distinguished Leadership” – 1st Edition, “International Leaders in Achievement” – IBC, Cambridge, England (1998), “Asia’s Who’s Who of Men and Women of Achievement & Distinction” and Malaysia Book of Records – 1st Edition (1998) for “The Longest Self-improvement motivation Course” in the Country for over 38 years.
Dato’ Lawrence Chan has successfully led seminars and workshops, and delivered more than 10,500 talks all over the world. The outstanding results achieved by individuals, Schools, Colleges, Universities and Organisations, has made him a highly sought and celebrated speaker across the globe.
As an Olympics and World Championship Peak Performance Coach, he has successfully trained mentally our National Badminton Team to win the Thomas Cup in 1992. Cheah Soon Kit and Yap Kim Hock went on the clinch the Silver Medal at the Atlanta Olympics Badminton Doubles Event in 1996.
In Hockey, he was responsible for mentally motivating the Malaysian Men’s Hockey Team to beat the World Champions, Holland and achieved a creditable 4th position in the 1975 3rd World Cup Hockey Tournament and 1979, to achieve the 4th position in the 1st Junior World Cup Tournament held in Paris. In 1993, he helped to prepare and mould the new National Men’s Hockey Team in the Asian Cup Tournament held in Hiroshima, Japan. In 1996, he was recalled successfully for the Atlanta Olympics.
To thousands of University, College and School Students, since 1974 he is regarded by them as the MASTER GURU OF SUCCESS who made a big difference in their studies, sports, co-curricular activities and their lives. As a result, many of his course students have in turn recommended their own children and others to our PDL Training Programmes.
