What are the current membership categories
?

Applicants who have been elected to membership shall be classified by the Executive Committee. The membership of this Association may be divided into five classifications; Professional, Ordinary, Associate, Honorary and Life members.

Professional members

Professional members shall be entitled to all rights and privileges of the Association, and shall share in its responsibilities.

Any individual shall be eligible for Professional membership in the Association who:-

Earns all portion of his or her income from at least Twenty (20) separate professional speaking engagements for each year or earn at least RM25,000 in speaking income each year.

Has a reputation for integrity and sound character.

Agrees to abide by the By-Laws, The Association's Code of  Professional Ethics and such other rules or regulations as may be adopted from time to time ; and

Meets such other uniform requirements as may be established by the Executive Committee.

Ordinary members

Ordinary members shall be entitled to all rights and privileges of the Association, and shall share in its responsibilities. - Any individual shall be eligible for Ordinary  membership in the Association who:-

Earns all portion of his or her income from at least Ten (10)  Professional speaking engagements for fee, not limited  to the last 12 months.

Has a reputation for integrity and sound character.

Agrees to abide by the Constitution, The Association's Code of Professional Ethics and such other rules or regulations as may be adopted from time to time.

Associate Members

ASSOCIATE MEMBERS are members who are in the process of learning to become Ordinary members.

Any individual shall be eligible for Associate Membership in the Association who :-           

Supplies materials , equipment or services to Professional speakers.

Has a reputation for integrity and sound character.

HONORARY MEMBERSHIP

HONORARY MEMBERSHIP may be conferred upon any person by a two-thirds vote of the members present in a general meeting. Such memberships shall be restricted to persons whose activities and public standing or reputation are consistent with the purpose of our Association.

Honorary Membership is only an honorary position and shall carry with it No Rights, including voting rights or obligations of membership except as the Executive Committee may determine. In the Constitution, all references to "members" should not refer to Honorary Members unless the context clearly recognizes otherwise.


Life Membership

Life Membership may be approved by the Executive Committee  upon such terms and conditions as may be determined by the Executive Committee from time to time.

One Time Entrance Fee : RM100

All Professional and Ordinary members are entitled to the monthly "Professional Speaker" magazine and Audio Newsletter "Voices of Experience" C

How can I receive a MAPS Membership Application?

To receive a MAPS Membership Application, choose from the following three options:

E-mail us you contact details to info@maps.org.my . We will send you an application by mail. You can then complete the application and submit it by mail to MAPS Office at the address listed below.

What documentation is required for membership?

MAPS application form need to be fill in and address it to the VP Membership (We only need a copy of your IC to prove that you are a Malaysian citizen and for your address.) and the executive committee will contact once received for other documents for verification (if necessary)

Regarding your status of membership we normally believe what you say in your application form unless there is a dispute in which case we may ask for proof of your eligibility to the class of membership.

How long does it take to approve and process my membership for MAPS?

Within One month or less.

What if I am a college or university professor. How do I qualify for membership?

Membership in this Association shall be open to men and women of at least 18 years of age residing or working in Malaysia. Depending on your application of categories.

What if I do not qualify for membership, how do I start?

Join as Associate member. Refer Q.1

What is the difference between Toastmasters and MAPS?

Toastmasters and Us. We are a professional body whose main aim is to help in the development of the professionals. WE conduct programmes, seminars and workshops mainly to assist the members to improve on their speaking career and continuous growth in this field.

Toastmasters on the other hand is to help members to overcome stage fright as well as be confident in delivering speeches. Their accent is on personal growth and MAPS is on speaking as a career.

Do I have to re-apply for membership every year?

No.
