Going from great to exceptional
Tips to take your speaking to the highest level
These days, delivering a great speech is not enough for a successful speaking career. You need to be exceptional, and you need to be unique. Alan Stevens shares tips from his 35-year speaking and media career to help you add that extra edge to your speaking business. The aim is for event planners to think of you and say "That's the only person we want".
Alan is Past President of the Global Speaker Federation (GSF), and a Fellow and Past President of the PSA. He also holds their Professional Speaking Award of Excellence (PSAE), as well as being one of only two people to receive the PSA Founders' Award, for services to the PSA. He is also one of only 24 people in the world to hold the CSPGlobal international speaking designation, and is also the latest recipient of the GSF's International Ambassador Award.
He's written a number of books about media and speaking. His latest book, The Exceptional Speaker, co-authored with Paul du Toit, was published in September 2013. He's been appearing frequently on radio and television since 1979. He also set up and ran Which? Online in 1996, which included online social networking features, years before Facebook. The Independent newspaper listed him as “one of the UK’s top ten media experts”. He lives in London with my wife and teenage daughter, where he enjoys running, rock music and fine food and wine, though not all at the same time. His great-great-great-great aunt was Mary Shelley, writer of Frankenstein.
